A man in his 60s is in hospital after being stabbed in the Alum Rock/Saltley area of Birmingham last night.
Emergency services were called just before midnight (7 July).
Police believe he was attacked by a group of masked men, described as Asian.
It comes just days after a teenager was shot and seriously injured in the same area last week (1 July).
Det Ch Insp Jim Mahon, of Birmingham Police, said: “We understand this is worrying for people in the area, and local officers will be remaining there to speak to anyone with concerns over the coming days.
“There is currently nothing to suggest any connection with any other recent incidents in the area, but we are keeping an open mind about the motivation for what has happened.
“Our priority right now is identifying those responsible and bringing them in to custody as quickly as possible, and officers have been working overnight to gather evidence and speak to potential witnesses.”
A scene remains in place as forensic officers investigate.
Officers will be reviewing CCTV and speaking to people in the area.
