West Midlands Police says it is encouraging the public to look out for each other and report anything that doesn’t feel right at events taking place this summer.

Thousands of people are set to attend music festivals, sports matches and other activities over the coming months.

The force says it knows that, unfortunately, crowded or very busy events and venues could be attractive targets for terrorist or other criminal activity

Officers are working with event organisers and businesses across the region to encourage vigilance and to report suspicious activity.

We are told the advice is not based on an increased threat to the region.

Detective Chief Superintendent Alison Hurst, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands, said: “As we head into the summer months, it’s great to see everyone attending some of the fantastic events hosted in our region, including music festivals, food festivals, sports matches and so much more.

“While our advice isn’t based on intelligence of an increased threat to the West Midlands, we’re reminding everyone of the importance of staying vigilant and reporting suspicious activity.

“We’re working with local event organisers, venues and businesses to help keep events safe this summer, but you can help by staying vigilant and sharing our advice with your friends, family and colleagues.

“Stay alert and trust your instincts; if you see something unusual or that doesn’t feel right – report it straight away, don’t wait for someone else to do it.”
