Police cordon off Birmingham Library amid welfare concern

Emergency services respond to incident in city centre

West Midlands Police and ambulance crews have responded to an incident near Birmingham Library and Centenary Square following concerns for the welfare of a man.

The emergency services were called shortly after 11am on February 4 to Broad Street. A large presence of police, ambulances, including a paramedic officer and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), and fire crews was seen in the area.

Police have cordoned off the entrance to the library and part of Centenary Square, although nearby roads remain open.

West Midlands Police confirmed the ongoing operation is related to welfare concerns and that the cordon is still in place.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said:

“We were called shortly after 11am to a concern for a patient’s welfare on Broad Street, Birmingham. One ambulance, a paramedic officer, and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) are currently in attendance at the scene.”
