A major new youth hub has officially opened at 11 Cannon Street in Birmingham, designed specifically for young people.

Funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the Young Futures Hub provides a dedicated environment for individuals aged 10 to 18, with services extended up to 25 for those with special educational needs and disabilities.

The hub, developed with direct input from its young users, includes flexible spaces for activities, meeting rooms, and IT facilities.

Councillor Kamel Hawwash, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families, explained how they created the hub with aims to offer support, advice, and opportunities to help young people build confidence, develop skills, and improve their wellbeing.

"The job market is changing. The way that you apply for jobs is changing," he said.

"So it will also provide young people with the confidence to apply for these jobs and they can begin to think about the future.”

The facility operates with an open-door policy, ensuring young people can access support whenever they need it, and utilises digital pathways to reach a wider audience.

Cannon Street hosts various partners such as the Pause project, Aquarius, and the Virtual School, offering a range of services in one convenient location.

The hub's launch coincides with Birmingham's Year for Children and Young People, a city-wide celebration that emphasises youth voices and rights.

Councillor Kamel Hawwash highlighted the hub’s significance, saying it provides a safe and inspiring space tailored to young people's needs.

The hub is open from Tuesday to Friday, 12pm to 6pm, with outreach work in the city centre on Thursday and Friday evenings.

Young people can visit to meet youth workers, access support, and explore opportunities offered across Birmingham.
