A man has been convicted of murder after a woman was brutally attacked and killed in Smethwick.

41-year-old Shara Millar's body was discovered with head injuries on Woodburn Road on the morning of 11th August last year. A forensic examination later revealed she died from strangulation.

During the investigation, CCTV footage showed a white sprinter van arriving at Woodburn Road just after 1am on the day of her death.

Shara was seen being removed from the back of the vehicle and left on the pavement as a liquid was splashed over her body.

The van was traced to a rental company used for parcel deliveries, and further enquiries identified Tanveer Singh, a 32-year-old from Leopard Lane, West Bromwich, as the individual in possession of the vehicle at the time.

He was arrested near his home for suspected murder and charged following the investigation.

After a two-week trial, Singh was found guilty and is due for sentencing on 27th May.

DI Joe Davenport from West Midlands Police's Homicide Unit commented: “Shara was brutally killed by a dangerous predator. Singh attempted to eliminate any trace of evidence by pouring a liquid over Shara’s body.

"My thoughts are with Shara’s loved ones, and I thank them for their support during this investigation and trial.”
