Man arrested following Kings Norton fire

Properties were evacuated after a blaze broke out on Hillmeads Road on Thursday afternoon

A 55-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire in Kings Norton.

The blaze started on Hillmeads Road shortly after 3pm yesterday (13 August), prompting the evacuation of several properties in the area.

Police say no injuries have been reported, although some homes were damaged in the incident.

The man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remains in police custody.

West Midlands Police said officers are continuing to support West Midlands Fire Service and other emergency service partners as they respond to a number of fires across the region.

The force also said its thoughts remain with the communities affected by the ongoing incidents.

A statement said:

"Across the West Midlands, we continue to support West Midlands Fire Service and other partners who are dealing with a number of fires, and our thoughts remain with affected communities."
