The initial findings of a report looking into a train crash with a tractor trailer near Leominster have been released.

The Transport for Wales train had been travelling to Cardiff from Manchester when it struck the loaded agricultural trailer at around 10:30am on May 22nd.

The train had been passing by Nordan Farm when the crash took place, a report from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch said.

According to the report, the train is believed to have been going at a speed of 80 miles per hour when it hit the trailer.

Initial evidence from the scene found that the driver of the tractor involved in the accident had called the signaller before using the crossing.

As well as this, evidence from the scene immediately after the crash revealed the train did not come off the tracks and derail.

Any future findings of the report were being looked into, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch would provide further updates where necessary.

The authority also said it would make any recommendations to improve safety public at the end of their investigation.
