A joint operation between Birmingham Trading Standards and the Lozells and East Handsworth Neighbourhood Policing Team resulted in the seizure of nearly 1,000 packs of illegal cigarettes at a supermarket on Lozells Road.

The operation took place last Tuesday, 26th May, and also uncovered hundreds of blocks and packets of illicit tobacco, along with over 20 tubs of shisha.

Authorities across the West Midlands continue to enforce actions against individuals selling illicit and illegal goods, activities linked to anti-social behaviour and violence in communities.

Sgt Greg Lampitt from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team emphasised the seriousness of such crimes, noting the negative impact on legitimate businesses and the potential for further criminal activity.

"We're listening to residents and business owners about this type of crime, which is not harmless or low-level," Sgt Lampitt said.

Sgt Lampitt praised the collaborative effort and assured continued partnership operations throughout the summer months.

Residents worried about illegal or illicit goods being sold in their area are encouraged to report concerns via Live Chat on the police website or by calling 101.
