Runners and spectators gear up for Birmingham's biggest running celebration
AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run returns for 2026
The AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run is set to return this weekend, bringing together 18,000 runners across the city.
Scheduled across two packed days, the event promises an exciting array of activities for participants, spectators, and families alike.
Sunday, 3rd May, will see the city host a 10k race and half-marathon starting from Centenary Square, with this year's tour offering participants a taste of Birmingham’s most iconic landmarks, culminating in a vibrant festival finish at Aston University.
This year’s finisher’s medal is dedicated to the “Brummie” beat, featuring bold purple hues in homage to Black Sabbath and Cadbury’s legacy, complete with vinyl-style grooves symbolising each mile conquered.
The Route and Experience
Participants can look forward to running through a selection of noteworthy city attractions including the Jewellery Quarter, St Paul’s Square, and Grand Central, with half-marathoners enjoying the scenic beauty of Cannon Hill Park and Edgbaston.
Adding to the experience, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will perform live throughout the race at CBSO Centre, providing an epic playlist for runners to enjoy along their journey.
Spectators will be able to cheer on over 18,000 participants with support in the form of charity cheer points, designed to provide that needed encouragement.
Participants and supporters are encouraged to download the event app to track live progress, as well as enjoy the race broadcast live via YouTube.
Inspiring Stories
Amongst those registered are inspirational figures such as 85-year-old veteran Sandy Cawley and Cat Byrne, who has dramatically transformed her health through running.
With the event having raised £10 million for charity since 2017, participants are reminded that they're part of an endeared community contributing to significant causes.
For those interested in a future chance to run, registration for next year is accessible through the reminder service offered by the Great Run Company.
