Giraffe dies at West Midlands Safari Park aged 15

Bwindi, a beloved giraffe at West Midlands Safari Park, has died at the age of 15 after a brief illness.

The safari park says she was a much-admired member of the giraffe herd, renowned for her sweet, cheeky personality.

Bwindi played a significant role within the group, serving as both a companion to other giraffes and a supportive presence during calving.

Her keepers have expressed deep appreciation for Bwindi, describing her as making them smile every day.

In a statement, West Midlands Safari Park said: "We are saddened to share the passing of Bwindi, one of our beautiful giraffes, who has died at the age of 15 following a short illness.

"Bwindi was a much-loved member of the herd and was well known to her keepers for her sweet, cheeky (and sometimes greedy) nature.

!Within the group, she played an important role as a companion to other giraffes and was a trusted presence during calving, often acting as a birthing partner and a gentle and patient “auntie” figure to the calves.

!She was deeply valued by her keepers who have said that the bond they shared was so special and she made them smile every day.

"They were endlessly proud of her and she will be greatly missed.

"Our thoughts are with the keepers and everyone who had the privilege of caring for her."
