The family of a Birmingham man are fundraising to bring him back to the UK following a serious crash in Thailand.
Ethan Lacey, 20, is in a critical condition after falling from a pick-up truck last month.
He was initially reported missing after his parents didn't hear from him and was later located in a hospital on 19 May.
In regular updates on a fundraising page, his family say his condition is improving, despite him being taken off life support.
In a fundraiser online, his grandmother, Anthea Chatwin, said: "After many heart-breaking family discussions, we made the devastating decision to agree to stop all active treatment and move Ethan onto palliative care because we were told there would be no quality of life for him, and that he would not be able to breathe on his own. We signed the paperwork for treatment to be withdrawn.
"However, in what feels like a miracle, Ethan is still breathing and his vital stats remain quite stable."
She added Ethan has been showing signs of movement: "Ethan has been moving his fingers. I asked him to move his thumb, and he lifted it. I repeated this 3–4 times, and each time he lifted it again.
"We know that if there is a recovery ahead, it could take months or even years, but if Ethan is still fighting, then so are we."
Before the collision, Ethan's travel insurance ran out and his family are fundraising for his medical treatment and to transport him back to the UK.
The GoFundMe page has raised over £15,000 so far.
