A campaign group has told us tens of thousands of people are still backing their campaign to get Britain's wonkiest pub rebuilt, despite its demolition two years ago.

On August 5th 2023, The Crooked House in the Black Country was devastated by a fire. To the surprise of locals, it was then turned to rubble just 2 days later.

What made The Crooked House wonky?

Ever since, a campaign has been ongoing to get the 18th Century landmarked restored in all it's glory.

Allegedly, mining works made the pub crooked, giving it the title as 'Britain's wonkiest pub'.

Locals say coins, marbles and even bottles could be rolled up the bar, when it was in operation.

The pub days after the fire

An inquiry into whether the pub should be rebuilt is currently delayed, whilst legal proceedings take place.

2 years on, campaign group 'Save the Crooked House' says they have more than 37,000 people still backing their call to restore The Crooked House.

"We have all got a story to tell"

Jennifer Allen is involved with the 'Save the Crooked House' campaign. She says they have as much motivation today as they did when they found out the pub was burning down:

"We have all got a story to tell, this is about getting the pub back to what it was so that future generations also have stories to tell.

"We used to bring our family from Canada and Australia to The Crooked House, it was a tradition," she said.

"It still feels like yesterday"

Jennifer told us they are desperate to know whether The Crooked House will be put back together:

"We are still awaiting further details on whether it will be rebuilt. We have got tens of thousands of people behind us.

"It still feels like yesterday, I cannot believe it has been 2 years since the fire already," she said.

A spokesperson from South Staffordshire Council said: "The council remains committed to resolving the breach of planning legislation using the our powers as a Local Planning Authority.

"We are still awaiting a decision from Staffordshire Police regarding their ongoing investigations.

"Any action by ourselves is held in abeyance until such time as their investigations are concluded."
