Couple jailed after man was ran over twice and robbed in Wolverhampton
They've been jailed for a combined 33 years
A man has been jailed for 24 years, with a four year extended licence, after running over a man twice in Wolverhampton.
His girlfriend, who stole a gold chain from the victim after he had been run over for the second time, has also been jailed for nine years.
46-year-old Melvin Winters was previously convicted of attempted murder and robbery, whilst 32-year-old Josie James was convicted of robbery.
The court had heard how Winters had ran over a man twice on Pope Road in The Scotlands in July last year.
The victim, a 42-year-old man, was left with serious injuries to his legs, ribs and shoulder.
He is still recovering, seven months later.
Investigations found that the couple had met the victim earlier that afternoon and there was an argument.
DC Reece Markham, from West Midlands police said: "Using a car as a weapon against another person is horrifyingly dangerous, and completely reckless - it could so easily have resulted in a loss of life.
"Then for the victim to be robbed whilst helpless on the ground is shocking, and only compounded by the fact that the two offenders drove away leaving their victim to the mercy of his significant injuries.
"Both refused to take responsibility for their appalling actions but have now rightly been convicted and jailed for a considerable amount of time for their crime."
