A 16-year-old boy is being treated for potentially life-threatening injuries following a shooting in Birmingham.

He was hurt on Bowyer Road in Alum Rock shortly before 5:30pm yesterday (1 July).

West Midlands Police say, though it happened near a mosque, they aren't connecting it with the place of worship at this time.

In a statement on its website, the force said: "Our investigation is at an early stage, and officers remain at the scene carrying out forensic and CCTV enquiries, and speaking to people in the area.

"We understand this is extremely worrying for people in the area, and local officers will be remaining there to speak to anyone with concerns.

"Anyone who saw what happened, or who has footage from the area, should call us on 101 or speak to us via Live Chat on our website quoting log 4638 of 1 July.

"We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam or doorbell footage."
