Birmingham man jailed for attempting to kill his wife
Raju Mollah found guilty following Birmingham Crown Court trial
A Birmingham man has been sentenced to 26 years in prison for trying to kill his wife in a violent attack at their home.
Raju Mollah, aged 50, was arrested after police received reports of a woman being attacked in a Small Heath property on 12th January last year.
Mollah was taken into custody accused of pouring hot oil on his wife's face before physically assaulting her.
During a trial at Birmingham Crown Court in August, Mollah was found guilty of attempted murder, having previously admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He was sentenced on Friday, with the judge describing the burns and injuries inflicted on the victim as 'horrific'.
Detective Inspector Phil Griffiths from the Public Protection Unit praised the victim's courage.
"This woman sadly suffered an absolutely vicious attack which was clearly an attempt to end her life," Griffiths said.
"We want to commend her for finding the bravery, after suffering significant and life-changing injuries, to still come to us, speak with us and help bear witness to the crime that was committed against her.
"She has helped ensure that this offender is now locked up for many years to come."
