Local residents encouraged to donate winter coats at drop-off points across the city

Birmingham is participating in Human Appeal's annual Winter Wrap-Up campaign, which aims to collect thousands of coats for those in need during the winter months.
Running until 25th November 2026, the campaign is returning for its 11th year and is operating in major UK cities, including Birmingham, with local drop-off points throughout.
Ahmed Osman, the UK Projects Manager, emphasised the necessity of the campaign: “Some of the feedback we’ve received is that the jackets and coats were a lifeline when it came to heating.”
He explained how people they supported were having to choose between heating or food, meaning they were living in "freezing-cold" homes.
The campaign, which began on 14th October, aims to collect 12,000 coats and over 18,000 items of warm clothing to help alleviate the impact of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
Human Appeal's initiative follows last year’s success, where over 10,500 coats were donated, contributing to a total of 326,700 coats gathered since the campaign’s inception in 2015.
Despite previous successes, Osman notes, “Even the 10,000+ coats we collected last year was still the tip of the iceberg. We still need to collect much more to reach the demand.”
The winter Wrap-Up campaign is partnered with various organisations, including SafeStore and Hands On London, to distribute donated items to those experiencing homelessness, refugees, domestic violence survivors and others in need.
"Please check your wardrobes if there’s any jackets or coats you don’t need – give them to us and we’ll make use of them,” Osman urged.
Human Appeal is aiming to meet its ambitious targets while spreading a message of compassion and unity across the country.
