Police have been granted extra powers as the funeral of a stabbing victim gets underway in Birmingham.
Police have been granted extra powers in parts of Birmingham today as the funeral of a stabbing victim gets underway today.
Zeshaan Shauket, 34, was attacked on Ashville Avenue in Hodge Hill at around 11:50pm on Tuesday 25 August and died in hospital the following Friday (28 Aug).
Today marks his funeral, with extra police in place in the Saltley, Nechells, Little Bromwich, and Stetchford areas.
The officers have been granted Section 60 powers, meaning they will be able to stop and search anyone without needing to show a reason, until 11pm today.
It also means they can tell people to remove face coverings.
In a previous statement, Zeshaan’s family said: "Our beloved Zeshaan was murdered outside our family home, a place where he and our family should have felt safe. The pain and devastation this has caused our family is impossible to put into words.
"Zeshaan was so much more than a brother and a son. He was a huge part of our family, and his presence, his personality, and the memories we shared with him will remain with us forever.
"He was incredibly loved by the whole community. He meant so much to all of us, and his loss has left a space in our family that can never be filled. Losing him so suddenly and tragically is something we cannot begin to describe.
"Zeshaan, you were loved more than you could ever have known. You have left behind a family with broken hearts."
Detectives investigating the murder are still appealing for witnesses to get in touch.
Six people have been arrested as part of the investigation.
