A man who police say 'deliberately drove' into a 28-year-old in Birmingham has been handed a life sentence for murder.

28-year-old Lee Baker suffered traumatic head injuries when he was struck by a car on Ormscliffe Road in Rednal on July 21st 2025.

Police said Lee had been involved in an argument with three men when 29-year-old Michael Povey, who had heard about the disagreement, drove his BMW straight into him.

Lee's brother managed to jump out of the way, but Lee was killed.

Police said Povey then ran off into the street to avoid being caught. He then called 999 and claimed that his car had been stolen by a “yob” and that he was “scared to go back around as someone had been hurt”.

Povey, of no fixed address, was found guilty of murder on 6 February and pleaded guilty to perverting the course of public justice.

Today (10th April) he was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 20 years.

In tribute to Lee, his family said: “We know Lee has gone and we would love to see him or hold him just one more time, but we can’t.

"He has been taken from us forever. He will be missed and loved forever.”
