Two men have been arrested after fireworks were set off from a building in Birmingham city centre.

West Midlands Police said they carried out an operation overnight and into the early hours to tackle firework-related disorder in the city.

The men, aged 26 and 28, were arrested on suspicion of illegally throwing fireworks in a public place.

Both remain in custody for questioning.

West Midlands Police said they were alerted to fireworks being set off from a building on Dale End.

Officers on the ground, supported by police drones, recovered discarded fireworks and a lighter.

A large police presence was visible around Birmingham city centre last night, including patrols around the Christmas markets, and around Bagot Street and Staniforth Street.

The force said anyone misusing fireworks can expect to be dealt with and prosecuted.
