West Midlands Police said they are increasing their presence in the region after an increase in the UK terrorist threat level.

The threat level has been raised to "severe" which means an attack is highly likely.

The force said their presence is being increased at key sites, from a mixture of armed and unarmed officers. .

Two Jewish men were stabbed in Golders Green on Wednesday.

Alleged attacker Essa Suleiman, 45, is accused of trying to kill Shloime Rand, 34, and Norman Shine, 76, during a knife rampage through the streets of the north London suburb.

He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning and was remanded in custody.

They said the attack in Golders Green, which triggered the threat level rise, had left the Jewish community in the West Midlands with added concerns.

West Midlands Police said they recognise people from all communities and faiths are affected by the uncertainty.
