A man has been sentenced to three years in prison for assaulting his then-partner in Tadley.

Michael Skyrme, 67, from Park Prewett Road, Basingstoke, attacked the woman at her home in August 2024, causing injuries to her face, wrist, and breaking her hand.

Police found Skyrme nearby shortly after the assault, arrested him, and charged him with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Skyrme pleaded guilty and received his sentence at Winchester Crown Court on 22nd October 2026, along with a five-year restraining order to prevent him from contacting the victim.

Police Staff Investigator Daniel Stockley from Basingstoke CID described the incident as "terrifying" and commended the victim's courage for trusting the police and criminal justice system.

Stockley said, “This sentence sends a clear message that domestic abuse in any form will not be tolerated within our communities.”

He urged anyone experiencing domestic abuse to trust that they will be supported and protected.

For emergencies or immediate danger, victims of domestic abuse should call 999.
