Man left with broken jaw after Basingstoke attack

A man has been charged, after another man was assaulted and left with a broken jaw in Basingstoke.

Police were called to a report that a man in his 50s had been assaulted near the train station, on Thursday 16 April. He suffered a broken jaw and was taken to hospital, to receive treatment.

Officers then received a report that a man in his 40s had been assaulted on Alencon Link a short while later. He did not suffer any injuries.

They then received a report that food had been stolen from the Greggs store, near the bus station. Officers attended the scene and made an arrest in connection with the reports.

Daniel Harris, 38, of no fixed abode, was later charged with:

• Wounding / inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent

• Assault by beating

• Theft from a shop

Harris appeared at Southampton Magistrates Court on Saturday 18 April and was remanded into custody. He is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Friday 8 May.
