Hart commits £5.5 million to boost affordable housing
Investment targets accessible, larger, and temporary homes for locals
Hart District Council is investing £5.5 million to tackle housing issues in the area.
The plan is to buy homes from the open market and turn them into affordable and temporary housing.
This move aims to provide different types of homes, including one and two-bedroom places for homeless families, bungalows fitted for wheelchair users, and bigger homes for families waiting for housing.
The money will also help build affordable homes in the countryside and on a site previously affected by antisocial behaviour.
All homes will be managed by a housing association, with the council keeping rights to nominate tenants, ensuring local people benefit for years to come.
Councillor Peter Wildsmith said the investment is all about creating opportunities for local people to stay near their jobs, schools, and family.
He said: “This investment is about creating homes and opportunities for local people. From families on our housing waiting list to residents who need accessible accommodation or temporary housing during difficult times, these projects will make a real difference.”
