A Stevenage man has been charged following a stabbing at a petrol station.

The incident occurred at the Shell Service Station, on Bradman Way, Stevenage, at around 6am on Friday 14 November, when an altercation between two men ended with a man in his 30s being stabbed.

Following an investigation an arrest was made the same day and David Bates, aged 27, of Trumper Road, Stevenage, was subsequently charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm at Hatfield Remand Court on 15 November..

Detective Constable Hannah Lambden, who is investigating, said: “We were able to respond quickly to this incident and make an arrest, which hopefully will reassure local residents.

"This kind of incident, which has occurred whilst we are running a knife amnesty, shows that taking knives out of circulation is a worthwhile exercise, that will help to reduce knife crime in the long term.”
