Police in Stevenage are urging the public for assistance following a suspected arson attack in the area.

On 27th January at approximately 8.15pm, reports emerged that a vehicle parked by a house on Iona Close was deliberately set ablaze by an unknown assailant.

The fire from the Renault Clio extended to a nearby Peugeot 2008, which was parked in an off-road bay.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames before any further damage occurred.

Investigating officer PC Harry Histed has made a public appeal for information.

"We believe this was a deliberate act and are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anyone behaving suspiciously or captured anything on their security cameras, to get in touch," PC Histed said.

"Fortunately, no one was injured and the blaze was quickly brought under control before it spread any further. However, this situation could easily have been much worse."

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact PC Harry Histed via email.
