A total of 36 community and voluntary organisations across the Thames Valley have been awarded more than £200,000 for projects aimed at preventing crime and improving public safety.

The money comes from the latest round of the Community Fund, which is jointly managed by the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police.

The funding round received 361 applications requesting more than £2.5 million in support.

After a competitive assessment process, organisations were awarded grants ranging from £1,371 to £10,000.

The fund is created from the proceeds of selling items seized from criminals which cannot be returned to their rightful owners.

Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Barber said: "The volume and quality of applications received demonstrates the incredible work taking place within our communities to prevent crime and improve public safety."

Barber also said: "The organisations receiving funding are delivering practical projects that make a real difference, whether through trauma-informed support for victims of crime, enhanced mentoring opportunities for young people, or initiatives to tackle anti-social behaviour, including the installation of CCTV cameras."

He added: "I am pleased that we are able to invest in these projects and support the dedicated organisations helping to build stronger and safer communities across the Thames Valley."

Chief Constable Jason Hogg said: "Alongside the Police and Crime Commissioner, I am pleased to award over £200,000 of funding to 36 voluntary and community groups in the second round of this year's Community Fund."

Hogg also said: "This funding supports community and voluntary organisations to run projects that play an important role in preventing crime and protecting our communities."

He added: "I look forward to meeting successful applicants at our presentation event next month."
