Over 240 knives have been removed in Hertfordshire following a national week of action targeting knife crime.

Sceptre Week, which began on Monday 18 May, police recovered 249 knives across the county.

227 weapons were seized through amnesty bins and further recoveries were seen from weapon sweeps, search warrants and search activity.

Six knife-related arrests were also made.

Officers carried out 77 community and education events during the week, including school visits, youth engagement sessions and retailer visits aimed at raising awareness and preventing offending.

Four test purchases were also carried out in shops, where one illegal sale involving a Stanley Knife was identified and addressed immediately.

Superintendent Chris Hay said: “This week of action demonstrates our continued commitment to tackling knife crime and protecting our communities. By combining enforcement with education and early intervention, we are working to both remove weapons from circulation and address the root causes of offending.

“We have seen strong support from local communities throughout the week, particularly from young people engaged through schools and outreach activity. Initiatives such as knife amnesties and retailer checks play an important role in reducing access to knives and encouraging safer behaviours.”
