Hekmat Galmne, 27, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison by Reading Crown Court for his role in a shooting that took place on the A41 in Watford.

On 25th July 2024, a disturbance happened in a park on Meriden Way around 3:30pm.

Later that day at approximately 5:20pm, Galmne encountered a man on an e-bike while driving a black BMW southbound on the A41.

A confrontation ensued, resulting in Galmne firing a shot at the e-bike rider.

The rider suffered a gunshot wound and was initially in life-threatening condition but has since recovered.

Galmne was found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Detective Inspector Mark Butler from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit said:

“This was an appalling act of violence committed in broad daylight on a busy stretch of road. Galmne showed complete disregard for human life and for the safety of the public. It is only through sheer luck that this incident did not result in a fatality or injure innocent members of the public.

"Today’s sentence reflects the gravity of his actions and sends a clear message: violence of this nature will not be tolerated. We will relentlessly pursue anyone who chooses to carry or use a firearm in our communities, and they should expect to face very significant prison time."
