A man who stabbed and shot his friend in a violent assault in Luton has pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm.

Callun Bermingham, 38, stabbed his friend more than six times before shooting him in the back at close range, a judge heard.

The ‘ferocious and sustained’ attack took place inside a property in Repton Close, on 25 March 2025.

An investigation led by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire (BCH) Major Crime Unit revealed that Bermingham, of Belmont Road, Luton, had been with the victim the night before, consuming drugs and alcohol, before returning to the address.

The following morning, a fight broke out between the pair, during which Bermingham stabbed the victim multiple times to the upper body, including his head and face.

A short while later, Bermingham shot the victim in the back at point-blank range before fleeing the property in a blue Jaguar.

Emergency services were called to the scene after the victim collapsed in the front garden of a neighbouring property while seeking help.

Suffering life-threatening injuries, the victim was taken to hospital where he remained in a critical condition for several weeks before being discharged.

Specialist Armed Response Officers were deployed to the Dallow area of the town following reports that Bermingham’s vehicle had been spotted but failed to stop for police.

Following a short pursuit, Bermingham was arrested by armed officers in Conway Road, after he attempted to drive the wrong way down a one-way street and collided with three other vehicles.

A search of the vehicle located a live firearm and a bottle of vodka.

At Luton Crown Court on Tuesday 5 May, Bermingham pleaded guilty to Section 18 GBH, having previously admitted to possession of a firearm and dangerous driving.

He is due to be sentenced at the same court on 24 June 2026.

Detective Inspector Verity McCann, from the BCH Major Crime Unit, said: “Bermingham is a dangerous man who carried out what can only be described as a ferocious and sustained attack on the victim.

“This incident could easily have resulted in Bermingham killing his friend. Anyone with a propensity for violence of this level has no place in our community.

“I would like to thank the teams who reacted so quickly to arrest Bermingham, and the detectives who have worked tirelessly to bring him to justice, particularly officers from Luton Criminal Investigation Department and the Major Crime Unit.”
