Luton is gearing up for a major celebration as it marks 150 years since becoming a borough, with the Kaiser Chiefs set to headline a one-day festival at Stockwood Park in September.

The event, "Luton Rising presents Party in the Park," promises to be one of the town's most significant celebrations in recent history, combining live music, cultural showcases, local talent, and community engagement.

Scheduled for Saturday September 12th, the event is supported by Luton Rising, the council's airport company, as the headline sponsor.

Kaiser Chiefs, a band renowned for hits like 'Ruby' and 'I Predict A Riot', will bring their electrifying live performance to the festivities.

Councillor Basit Mahmood, portfolio holder for town centre regeneration and inclusive growth, said: "Luton Rising presents Party in the Park is a celebration of everything that makes our town special – our people, our diversity, our creativity and our sense of community.

“We're delighted to welcome Kaiser Chiefs as part of this landmark occasion - there's no band better for our Party in the Park. We look forward to bringing residents and visitors together for what will be a truly memorable event."

Councillor Javeria Hussain, vice-chair of Luton Rising, said: “We are delighted to be the headline sponsor for such a momentous event in Luton’s anniversary year.

“Our backing for community events is one of the ways we thank everyone for supporting our airport and we can’t wait to see everyone from across Luton come together to celebrate the town’s history and look forward to the future.”

The event, organised under the banner of Luton 150, seeks to honour Luton's historical legacy while offering residents and visitors a chance to enjoy communal festivities.
