Residents are being invited to attend a free fraud and cybercrime advice session hosted by Hertfordshire Constabulary at Letchworth Library on Wednesday, 8 October.

The event, which runs from 11am to 3pm, will be delivered by specialist Cyber Protect officers from the force’s Serious Fraud and Cyber Unit.

Attendees will receive practical tips on how to avoid the most common types of fraud and online scams — with free tea and biscuits also on offer.

Throughout the day, officers from Hertfordshire County Council’s Trading Standards and Fraud teams will be on hand to answer questions and provide personalised advice, alongside representatives from the Herts Beacon Victim Care Fraud Hub.

The event will feature several themed talks, including:

11:00–12:00: Rogue Traders & Scams – Trading Standards

12:15–12:30: Fraud Against the Council – HCC Fraud Team

12:45–13:45: Cybercrime & Fraud Prevention – Hertfordshire Police

14:00–15:00: Scams & Victim Support – Beacon Victim Care

Detective Inspector Pete Hankins, from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Serious Fraud and Cyber Unit, said: “Fraud and cybercrime are a constant threat, which has been increasing across the country over recent years. Criminals often prey on the elderly and vulnerable, many of whom prefer to talk to crime prevention experts in person, rather than accessing advice online.

“These sessions are completely free, so please come along during the times advertised. Our experts will be able to give you practical crime prevention advice, to help you avoid common scams and recognise new ones.”
