Man arrested for a warrant in connection with 2007 Milton Keynes murder
Umar Farooq was arrested at Heathrow airport yesterday.
A man has been arrested for a warrant in connection with a murder in Milton Keynes back in 2007. The arrest follows an investigation by Thames Valley Police.
46-year-old Umar Farooq of no fixed abode, was detained under a Warrant of First Instance at Heathrow Airport yesterday, having travelled here from Pakistan, via Uzbekistan.
The warrant is in relation to the murder of Atiq Rehman in The Square in Wolverton, Milton Keynes, on the 15th of May 2007.
Farooq will appear at Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court today.
Policing Commander for Milton Keynes, Chief Superintendent Emma Baillie said: “The murder of Atiq Rehman in 2007 had a significant impact on communities in Milton Keynes at the time, so I understand that news of this arrest and a defendant appearing in court could be difficult for some.
“Due to the ongoing court proceedings, we won’t be able to provide any further details on the case, this is to ensure there is a fair trial. However, we have strong relationships across all our communities and partners within the city and we will be reaching out to listen and support you. If you have any concerns please speak to us.”
