Six individuals have been arrested in Bedfordshire following a series of police raids targeting organised crime operating through high street businesses.

Operation Machinize, a nationwide initiative coordinated by the National Crime Agency (NCA), led to the seizure of drugs, counterfeit goods, and over £25,000 in cash throughout the county in October.

Search warrants were executed at various businesses, focusing on money laundering and illegal activities within cash-intensive establishments.

In Bedford, police, alongside Bedford Borough Council Trading Standards, seized more than £17,000 and over 500 counterfeit items, including illicit perfume and vape products.

In Luton, officers arrested two men on suspicion of money laundering and drug offences, seizing over £8,000 in cash and counterfeit perfume and toys. They have been bailed with conditions while investigations continue.

In Leighton Buzzard, another arrest involved a man suspected of drug-related driving offences, possession with intent to supply Class B drugs, and an uninsured vehicle was confiscated.

Inspector Matthew Stonnell emphasized the importance of proactive measures against organized crime to protect communities and businesses.

Stonnell stated, “Profits from counterfeit goods and money laundering fuel further criminality, causing significant harm to our communities.”

He assured continued collaboration with local partners, businesses, and communities to dismantle crime networks on high streets.
