A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Bedfordshire as part of the investigation into the shooting of a police officer in Nottingham city centre.

He was arrested in the early hours of Monday 19th October on suspicion of assisting an offender.

He has since been recalled to prison for breaching the terms of his licence.

The arrest is one of seven made so far in connection with the investigation.

The officer suffered a gunshot wound to his foot after approaching a man and a woman at a bus stop in Angel Row at around 4.50am on Sunday 18th October.

Detective Chief Superintendent Richard Bull, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The injured officer was carrying out his duty to protect the public and it is truly abhorrent that this has happened to him. We continue to support him as he undergoes further treatment in hospital and are keeping him and his family fully informed of developments in the investigation."

He also said: "We would also like to stress that the officer has requested privacy at this time, and we ask that the media respects that wish."

Later on the Sunday, officers stopped a vehicle in the Radford area of Nottingham and arrested its three occupants.

A 27-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

On Wednesday 21st October, Nottingham Magistrates' Court granted detectives a warrant of further detention, allowing them to continue questioning her.

Both have been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
