A woman who was abused by her former partner has spoken out about the impact his behaviour has had on her life.

At St. Albans Crown Court on Wednesday the 2nd of September, 32-year-old Nashon Campbell was jailed for five years and one month after pleading guilty to the following charges:

  • Coercive and controlling behaviour
  • Assault by beating
  • Intentional strangulation
  • Possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (cocaine)
  • Criminal damage

A restraining order was also put in place to protect his former partner.

Speaking in front of the court during the sentencing hearing, the woman said she had been left feeling “numb and broken” and that her abuser had “degraded her sense of self-worth”.

Campbell began his campaign of abuse in June 2024, continuing for almost a year and a half.

During that period, he assaulted his victim several times, including while she was pregnant. He hit her head with a metal pole, threatened her, withheld food from her and made her eat off the floor, verbally abused her and damaged her car.

She said: “I desperately needed the support of my friends and family whilst pregnant, but I was too embarrassed to see them or go out in public since I was constantly covered in bruises from where Nashon had hit me. It was really isolating and I felt like I was trapped at home with him.”

She added: “I genuinely thought that I was going to die. Even now it hurts to think about.

“The last few years with Nashon have changed me as a person.”

Campbell was arrested at a hotel room in November 2025, where officers found a large quantity of Class A drugs and cash, along with a bag of cannabis.

Detective Constable Ben Chandler, who led the case, said: “Campbell is a dangerous and volatile man who carried out a sustained campaign of abuse, causing significant harm and distress."

“I’d like to commend her for her bravery in coming forward. While no sentence can ever erase the impact Campbell has had on her life, we hope she can begin to move forward.”
