After gaining an average of over 10 million viewers during the first two series, it's no surprise that fans of BBC drama Doctor Foster were gutted to learn there were no plans for a third. However, that all changed earlier this year, when bosses confirmed the hit drama will be returning for a final series, 10 years on!

With main characters Dr Gemma Foster (Suranne Jones), Simon Foster (Bertie Carvel), and Tom Foster (Tom Taylor) already confirmed to return, the BBC has now revealed who else will be part of the cast, as well as giving fans at first glimpse at series three.

Sharing a first look photo on Wednesday 19th August, Suranne Jones' character Gemma can be seen sitting head of the table during a dinner with friends in her house, with a silently seething expression on her face.

Who is in the cast for series three?

As well as Suranne Jones, Bertie Carvel and Tom Taylor reprising their roles as Gemma, Simon and Tom after almost a decade, it was announced on 19th August that Slow Horses star Dustin Demri-Burns will join the cast as Callum, Gemma’s new partner.

Adam James, who featured in the first two series, will return as Gemma’s neighbour Neil, with Thusitha Jayasundera also reprising her role as Ros, Gemma’s friend and colleague. Finally, Anna Madeley will return to the show as Lucy.

There's also a whole host of new cast members joining the final season, including Rosalie Craig, Gracie Oddie-James, Lois Baglin, Karima McAdams, Anjana Vasan, Michael Balogun, Christina Balmer, Justin Salinger and Ash Tandon.

Despite appearing in the first two series, it looks like Jodie Comer won't be returning.

When is it on TV?

No exact start date has been given just yet, but the BBC has said Doctor Foster will return to our screens in 2027 with five new episodes.

The synopsis for series three reads: 'Ten years ago, on discovering her husband Simon was having an affair, Gemma Foster enacted a masterful revenge. But the fallout was devastating when her 15-year-old son Tom disappeared.

'Now, in series three, Gemma is still a GP, still in the same house, but on the brink of a fresh start: she has met someone new and is getting married. But as the wedding day draws closer, and friends and family gather, shadows from the past begin to re-emerge threatening both her happiness and her reputation.

'As Gemma fights to protect those she loves and expose whoever’s intent on hurting her, will she be able to put the past to bed, dispense justice, and claim the future she deserves, before it is too late?'. (sic)
