Nearly two million people across Yorkshire are planning to spend the day away from home this Christmas.

That's according to a survey by private hire vehicle company Veezu - which found 43% of people in the region will be heading out to celebrate.

An estimated 23% will visit family members’ homes, while 5% are being hosted by friends.

A further 7% — more than 300,000 people across Yorkshire — will dine out in pubs and restaurants, with Leeds and Sheffield expecting approximately 55,000 and 25,000 people respectively to celebrate Christmas Day at dining spots.

The celebrations won’t just be limited to Christmas Day. In Leeds, 40% of people plan to kick-start festivities on Christmas Eve, while around a third of Sheffield residents aim to do the same.

Across Yorkshire, one in 10 residents are expected in pubs and restaurants on the 24th December.

Sally Krouma from Veezu said: “This festive period is one of the busiest times of the year for many people and we definitely see a surge in rides at this time of year across Yorkshire.

"We’re encouraging people to plan ahead this Christmas to ensure they can enjoy the period without any travel worries.”

When Boxing Day arrives, over 10% of Yorkshire residents are planning to go shopping for traditional post-Christmas deals.

The festive period also marks a busy time for local pubs, with some 600,000 in Yorkshire expected to make a trip.

Sports fans are among them, as 18% of respondents shared plans to attend events like football matches, rugby games, and horse races in the days following Christmas.

For others, the end of the festive season will present time to take a proper break, with 7% of Yorkshire residents heading off on a holiday to round out their celebrations.
