Worksop fundraiser 'stunned' to find out a teenager ended up surviving horror crash
The incident took place on Todwick Road between Dinnington and Todwick on the 13th of December 2025
A Worksop fundraiser tells us he was 'stunned' to find out a teenager he thought had died in a crash actually survived.
South Yorkshire Police believed 17-year-old Trevor 'TJ' Wynn had died in a car crash near Rotherham last month.
But an ID error by the force led to the discovery that 'TJ' survived - while 18-year-old Joshua Johnson died alongside 17-year-old Summer Louise Scott.
Jonathan Stoner put on a charity boxing match to help cover TJ's funeral costs - raising over £1,000 in the process.
He - like everybody else - was under the impression Joshua Johnson had survived - but an error by South Yorkshire Police actually led to new information coming to light - with Trevor Wynn being the one still alive.
Jonathan's been describing the moment TJ's family called him - the day after the fundraiser - once they'd found out their son was still alive:
"They asked me to sit down and told me that TJ was still alive. The family told me I could do whatever I wanted with the money, but I still wanted to give it to TJ.
"Joshua's family contacted me via the police and told me to give the money to TJ's family - which will be used to fully rehabilitate him.
"I would've liked to have given Joshua's family some money, but if they don't need it or don't want to receive any, then every last penny will be used to help TJ recover - because he's got a long road ahead of him.
"He's going to need help in learning how to walk again."
2 teenagers have been arrested in relation to the collision - with both remaining on bail pending further enquiries.
South Yorkshire Police has since referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct after identifying the error.
