A man who was found dead last week in Barnsley has been named as 41 year old Russell Baxter.

He was discovered with multiple injuries at a home on Wingfield Road at 9:16pm last Thursday (September 3) and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem was inconclusive and further tests are taking place to determine a cause of death.

A 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and has been bailed pending further investigations.

Detective Inspector Adam Watkinson, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "My thoughts are with Russell's family and loved ones at this incredibly sad time, and they remain at the heart of our investigation.

"Our enquiries into Russell's death are ongoing, and I am appealing for information from the public who were either in or around the Wingfield Road area on the day of Russell's death.

"Were you in the area on Thursday? If you have any information, no matter how small or insignificant you think this may be, I encourage you to come forward and report this. The information you provide could be the missing piece we need in securing justice for Russell's loved ones."
