Two brothers have been jailed for their involvement in a shooting in Barnsley.

It happened on the 21st January around 9.30pm on Cemetery Road in the Jump area of the town.

CCTV footage showed both Daniel and Jamie Galfsky inside a vehicle which drove towards a premise, before a shotgun was used to damage the window. That same vehicle, which was registered to Jamie Galfsky, was found two days later burnt out near Wombwell Woods.

Detective Inspector Matt Barnes, from the Armed Crime Team, said:

"Daniel and Jamie Galfsky decided to carry out a reckless act of using a firearm on a busy street, with no regard for their action or the potential consequences.

"This could have been a very different trial if someone got injured on that night, but thankfully the building took the damage.

"Those who choose to use guns on the streets of South Yorkshire are senseless and violent individuals. They do not belong here, or anywhere.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their support during our investigation. We had a fantastic response from the wanted appeal we issued, as well as witnesses providing statements. Your help really strengthens our cases and helps bring justice."

The brothers were both later charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, with Daniel Galfsky also being charged with criminal damage.

They both pled not guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence at Sheffield Crown Court on 4th March.

However, a jury later found them both guilty of the offences following a trial. They were both sentenced last Friday (16 October) at the same court.

Jamie Galfskey, 37, of Silkstone View, Barnsley, was handed a six year and six-month sentence for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Daniel Galfsky, 35, of Silkstone View, Barnsley, was handed a six-year sentence for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and criminal damage.
