South Yorkshire politics expert reflects on Trump's first 100 days as US President
The Republican was elected instead of Democrat Kamala Harris last November
Politics experts in South Yorkshire tell us they've 'never seen anything like' Donald Trump's return to the White House.
Today marks his 100th day in office as the 47th US President.
He's made a number of controversial legal changes since his re-election last year - on things like immigration & gender identity.
Professor Michael Jacobs from the Uni of Sheffield's Politics Department says some policies are already being felt in the UK:
"He has introduced tariffs on British exports to the US - 10% in general, and 25% on cars, steel, and aluminium - which is already causing tremendous damage to the British car industry and what's left of our steel industry.
"Those prices are effectively being put up by 25% which will reduce demand and therefore hit employment prospects.
"The opinion polls in the United States are saying that Trump has the lowest level of public support after 100 days of any president since records began, so there's both this extreme activity but also an extreme reaction from the American public.
"It's a bit of an understatement to say that a lot has happened in his first 100 days.
"Donald Trump has been an extraordinary performer - he's appeared almost every day in this period - so, he has made far more public statements than most presidents before him.
"He is a huge disruptor. In terms of international relations, he says things in public that you wouldn't expect an American president to come out with.
"Negotiations like this are usually conducted in a polite and behind the scenes way."
Trump also served as the 45th US President from 2017-2021.
