It's hoped Tramlines festival will bring in around '4 million' pounds to the local economy in Sheffield.

It's set to go ahead this Friday until Sunday - with the main event happening in Hillsborough Park, while the Fringe festival is due to take place in the city centre.

Councillor Martin Smith is the Chair of Economic Development at Sheffield City Council:

"Major events like this are really important for the city.

"It really helps to boost the economy in Sheffield, as more people are using our pubs, bars, hotels, and restaurants.

"That boost for the whole of the city is worth several million pounds.

"We're a big major city; the fourth biggest city in the country.

"We need to have these things.

"Why should our residents have to go elsewhere to enjoy world class music and entertainment.

"People living in Sheffield should have the opportunity to enjoy music and culture of this calibre on their doorstep.

"It's a famous event these days, it's great for the city, and it pulls people in.

"It shows Sheffield in a really great light to the rest of the country.

"We do have to make sure we get the right balance though when it comes to putting on a major event like this and local residents.

"We've got to be mindful of the fact that people live close to these events as well, so we've got to be fair when considering noise and hours of operation."

The festival first started up back in 2009 - with 2023 marking its 14th year.
