Tramlines festival set to get underway in Sheffield
The doors at Hillsborough Park are set to open from 12pm today
For many music lovers in South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire- the 'biggest' weekend of the year is about to get started in Sheffield.
Tramlines Festival - which's been up & running since 2009 - returns to the city today at Hillsborough Park.
Alex Deadman is one of the organisers:
"We're sold out this year.
"We aren't growing in capacity particularly - we expect around 40,000 people a day.
"So, year on year, it's more looking at where we can improve around diversifying the line-up.
"We've got a few all-female line-ups performing this year.
"When you look at Tramlines here in Hillsborough and the fringe events in the city centre; it is Sheffield at its best, I think.
"We are the music city; it's such an important part of our identity.
"It's not the only thing we do, but we do have international acclaim for it.
"People who studied in Sheffield - but have since left - will come back to the city this weekend for Tramlines.
"All the hotels are full - there's surely not a better weekend than this to come back for?
"The economic impact is huge; so many millions are generated over the weekend in the city.
"Wherever possible we're using local suppliers, so that the economic benefit is felt by all.
"We have all these incredible things in Sheffield; we don't always do the best job of promoting them further afield, and I think Tramlines does do that.
"We're creating a destination weekend; come to Sheffield, there's something for absolutely everybody.
"We really are celebrating our musical heritage and developing it for the future."
The main stage headliners include Fatboy Slim, Courteeners, & Wolf Alice.
