A teenage boy's died after getting into difficulty in water in Rotherham.

Police have confirmed emergency services were called to Rother Valley County Park just before 7 o'clock last night.

The 16 year old had entered the water but hadn't been seen getting out.

We're told a body was recovered from the water in the early hours of this morning.

South Yorkshire Police issued a statement earlier:

'We were called to Rother Valley Country Park at 6.50pm yesterday (Monday 25 May) following reports that a teenage boy had entered the water but had not been seen getting out.

'Officers, alongside emergency crews from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, responded and a specialist search operation was launched.

'Sadly, in the early hours of this morning, a body was recovered from the water. Whilst formal identification is yet to take place, the boy's family has been informed and is being supported by officers.'
