Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after five young swans were shot in Rotherham by what is suspected to be a catapult and ball bearings.

The incident happened between 7pm on September 5 and 2pm on September 6 in the Browns Lock area of Chesterfield Canal.

The young cygnets have been treated at a swan rescue, with two said to be in a serious condition.

Anyone with information is being urged to get in touch with South Yorkshire Police on 101.
