Nine rugby league clubs bid for place in expanded Super League

Existing Super League clubs - like Huddersfield Giants - have bid alongside Championship sides like Bradford Bulls and Doncaster

Nine rugby league clubs have submitted bids for including in an expanded Super League next season, its been revealed.

Earlier this year executives at existing top flight clubs voted to increase the number from 12 to 14.

The first 12 positions will be decided using the Club Grading process, as during last season, with the 'strongest' applications from other clubs then being consider.

A total of nine teams had put in applications for consideration by the deadline of Friday, including two existing Super League teams - Huddersfield Giants and Hull FC.

Seven Championship clubs have also bid - Bradford Bulls, Doncaster, London Broncos, Oldham, Toulouse Olympique, Widnes Vikings and York Knights.

A seven strong panel will now consider each bid, with the composition of next year's Super League to be confirmed on October 16.
