It's thought there is 'plenty' of interest in the UK's third largest steelworks - which's based in South Yorkshire.

Speciality Steel went into compulsory liquidation last month following a high court order.

The government has since stepped in to cover the wages of staff who work at their sites in Rotherham & Sheffield.

Marie Tidball is Labour's MP for Penistone & Stocksbridge:

"From the conversations I've had - I know a couple of potential buyers have already taken a look around the sites - and I'm really hopeful a deal will happen soon.

"There's a phenomenal opportunity there, and I want to see British made steel having a long lifespan in South Yorkshire - on our doorstep.

"The key thing is that there is a lot of interest in terms of buyers.

"We know that at its peak the Stocksbridge Speciality Steel base produced 15% of the world's aerospace and defence steel - and I want to see us getting back to that position once again.

"Our government understands the value and the importance of the sites in Stocksbridge and Rotherham."

Bosses at Speciality Steel - who employ around 1,500 people - described the move to wind up the business as 'irrational'.
