Son sentenced to indefinite hospital order after stabbing dad to death in Doncaster
Korey Ewen was found responsible for causing father John Hinchliffe’s death
A man has been handed an indefinite hospital order after stabbing his father to death in Doncaster last year.
23 year old Korey Ewen was charged with murder after his father John Hinchliffe, aged 63, was found fatally injured at a property on Maple Grove in Conisbrough on January 16 last year.
A post-mortem determined the cause of death to be stab wounds.
Following the incident, Ewen was detained in a hospital facility and later declared unfit to plead to the murder charge.
A 'trial of facts' was held at Sheffield Crown Court this week to establish whether Ewen committed the act that led to the death of his father.
On January 22, the jury concluded that Ewen was responsible for causing his father's death.
He was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order.
In a statement, John Hinchliffe’s family said: “We are utterly heartbroken at the loss of John. Life will never be the same for any of us again."
“John was a son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend to many. We are pleased with the outcome at court, though it does not change the grief we are continuing to endure.
“We would like to ask for our privacy to be respected as we continue to try and process our loss and move on with our lives.”
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Wood, South Yorkshire Police Senior Investigating Officer, said: “My thoughts following this devastating incident remain with John and his loved ones, who continue to feel the void this tragedy has left in their lives every single day.
“Our officers have supported John’s family members since the investigation launched. We hope the court proceedings have given them answers and an outcome as they continue to process their heartbreaking loss.”
