Man arrested after shots fired outside Doncaster home
Police believe the shooting happened in the early hours of last Wednesday
A man has been arrested in connection with a suspected shooting in Doncaster last week.
Police believe shots were fired during the early hours of July 22 outside a home on Paxton Avenue, with the gun being fired from the back of a venicle.
Nobody was hurt during the incident, during which a black-SUV type vehilce was spotted.
A 38 year old man has now been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent.
He was also arrested on suspicion of arson endangering life in connection with a reported incident in the same area on July 16.
Detective Inspector Matt Barnes of South Yorkshire Police said:
“We are grateful to the person who reported the shooting and enquiries have been progressing in the time between that first call and this appeal for information.
"While our investigation is at an early stage, initial checks indicate that a firearm was discharged on a residential street more than 24 hours before it was brought to our attention.
“This delay has effectively given whoever shot this weapon time and space to potentially do it again.
“We are stronger with the help of our communities and urge anyone who has suspicions about those involved in gun crime to contact us and make us aware so that we can take action.
“Firearms, and those who carry them, put innocent people’s lives in immediate danger and it will not be tolerated in Doncaster or anywhere else in South Yorkshire.
“Again, I want to express my thanks to members of the public who have supported our investigation so far, but I must make it clear that ignoring such violence in your community can have devastating impacts further down the line.
“If you know anything about this shooting, get in touch with us. It might seem insignificant, but it’s no exaggeration to say that what you choose to do with information you hold could be the difference between life and death.
“Officers are patrolling around the affected area and will continue to be available to anyone who wants to speak to them or ask any questions.
“You can also report information to us online or by calling 101.”
