Shirebrook man admits stabbing stepdad and pet dog to death

A teenager has admitted murdering his stepfather and also stabbing a pet dog to death at their home in Shirebrook.

Logan Procter, 19, appeared at Derby Crown Court on today (January 16), where he pleaded guilty to the murder of 57-year-old Christopher Owen.

Armed officers were called to the house on Valley Road at 8.45pm on October 22 last year.

Mr Owen was found with multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Jack Russell dog, also found at the property, had suffered stab wounds and has also died.

Procter was charged with Mr Owen’s murder as well as causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal in relation to the death of the dog.

Procter has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Derby Crown Court for sentencing on March 16.
